The Autobots are the “good guys” in the Transformers universe. They claim Cybertron as their home planet, as due the Decepticons, who are their enemies. The Autobots as well as the Decepticons are robots of a humanoid type, who can transform into vehicles, machines and other mechanical robots.
Autobots frequently transform into civilian vehicles, although sometimes they are military vehicles or aircraft. The Autobots are often outnumbered by the Decepticons, and they are supported by the humans. The insignia that Autobots wear represents Primus’ face in most Transformers continuities.
Hasbro started their Transformers line of toys with eighteen Autobot characters who transformed into automobiles, and ten Decepticons were communication equipment, aircraft and weapons.
In the Marvel comics, the Autobots and Decepticons both were said to have been created by Primus. This is still the case in most versions. Marvel’s original comics didn’t give any reason for the Transformers’ existence, but some versions imply that the Transformers were originally created as warriors to defend the universe.
Here are some of the Autobots: Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Sideswipe, Jazz, Ratchet, Ironhide, Mudflap, Skids, Jolt
In the U.S. original cartoon version, Autobots were directly descended from robots originally created as consumer
goods on Cybertron, by the Quintessons. They eventually developed sentience, and then they rebelled against those that created them. After the Quintessons were gone and forgotten, the planet Cybertron was peaceful. But then the Decepticons wanted war.
The Autobots developed a technology to win the war against the Decepticons, which brought about Cybertron’s Golden Age. The Decepticons eventually also developed the ability to transform, and thus began the third Cybertronian War. The Autobots won that war by blowing up an energy warehouse, and brought the workers to Alpha Trion, where they became the defenders of Cybertron.
For millions of years, Cybertronians fought over whatever energy was left, so the Autobots made an expedition to find new sources of energy, led by Optimus Prime. They were intercepted by the Decepticons, and crash-landed on the planet Earth, which is where the next few millions of Beast Wars occurred.

In the 2007 Transformers movie, the Autobots came to Earth and found the AllSpark, to try to revive the planet Cybertron. In the beginning, Cybertron had been ruled by Megatron and Optimus Prime together, and Optimus created the Autobots, to protect the AllSpark. Eventually, the U.S. government is convinced by a human friend that the Autobots need them as allies against the Decepticons. Most of the Decepticons are destroyed, and Optimus Prime makes Earth the new home of the Autobots.
Through 2006, the war was still raging. Both sides rediscovered the Quintessons and the Hate plague was unleashed after a number of battles. Quintesson was not affected, and he revived Optimus Prime. Optimus then recovered the Matrix when he defeated Rodimus Prime, and cured the galaxy of the Hate plague.
After only one year of peace, Galvatron got to the Plasma Energy Chamber, and he wanted to move Cybertron to Earth. There they would use the energy of the Chambers to overload the sun. But Cybertron regains its golden hue thanks to the human Witwicky and the allied Nebulons. Optimus Prime knew that there would always be Decepticons, but he also knew that the Autobots would always stop them.
