The Autobots Twins Skids and Mudflap Story!
Skids and Mudflap are members of the Transformers universe; Skids was used for four characters in the various universes, and his name has been modified to “Skid-Z” for the newest character. Mudflap transforms i
nto a crane used in construction.
Skids has been characterized as an absent-minded type of warrior. He is very intelligent and is forever collecting data, but he is also a daydreamer.
He is a dedicated scientist and has made discoveries that were valuable to his faction. He actually detests the wars he gets caught up in, but stays the course in the army of the Autobots.
Mudflap hid out with other Autobot refugees on Earth, and he was recruited by Starscream to become a Decepticon. Instead he left, wandered Earth and rejoined the Autobots. In the toy line version of the character, he is an undercover Decepticon, who came to Earth before the Autobots arrived. He sabotaged human society after he infiltrated the construction industry.
Skids agreed at one time to have his spark transferred into crystal storage in case of additional troops needed by the Autobots. These were activated, and Bumblebee showed Skids around Earth. Skids found music there and had trouble interacting with the humans.
He was damaged during a withdrawal from a Wyoming Decepticon base, and was believed to be missing in action. But he was found and restored and lived in a small town with Charlene, a Western-enthusiast. He was eventually forced back into battle, even though he hated war, and he protected Charlene and Donny.
Mudflap often ranted about disliking humans, and as thus, Starscream talked him into joining the group Decepticons. He and Starscream confronted the human allies of the Autobots, opposed by Scattershot. They froze Scattershot’s systems, and the Autobots came to the rescue. Mudflap was also once trapped in a statis field, just as Megatron was. Mudflap later becomes a member of the Autobots once again.
In the 2007 Transformers film, Mudflap was described as a particularly vicious Decepticon, but he wishes that he was an Autobot. He is one of the very few characters in the 2007 film toy line from
the Transformers movie who hadn’t appeared in fiction after that appearance.
Skids and Mudflap appeared in Revenge of the Fallen, and the film was well-attended by fans of the Transformers Universe. Critics have alleged that they seem to embody stereotypes that are racist in nature. They speak in a street-type slang, and their appearance has been described as “ape-like”.
The director of Revenge of the Fallen, Michael Bay, has defended Skids and Mudflap as just good fun, and said that they added more personality to the film. He also said that these two characters were created for kids to enjoy.
