The Wreckers

The Wreckers are without a doubt going to be the favorite Transformers in Dark of the Moon for many fans. Although they are a part of the Autobots, they were not included in the original toy or comic line. It was actually Simon Furman, Marvel UK writer who was the mastermind behind them.

The Wreckers in Dark of the Moon

Although there were originally 11 Autobots included in The Wreckers, there are only three in Dark of the Moon.

Topspin – Jimme Johnson’s famous #48 car is the inspiration behind Topspin. His motto is that he’s not interested in anything that’s not difficult. He is a Lowe’s/Kobalt stock car, categorized under Deluxe vehicles.

Leadfoot – John DiMaggio is the voice behind Leadfoot while the car belongs to Juan Pablo Montoya. Leadfoot is the #42 Target Chevrolet Impala stock car who’s motto is all about bringing the noise!

Roadbuster – Don’t ask questions that you don’t want answers to is the motto of Roadbuster. This is the one causing the biggest stir as he is Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s #88 Amp Energy/National Guard Chevrolet Impala Sprint Series stock car.

The Role The Wreckers Play in Dark of the Moon

Topspin, Roadbuster and Leadfoot make up the powerful Autobots team known as The Wreckers in Dark of the Moon. They were on the Xantium along with Sideswipe when he came to Earth. When NASA took possession of them, they were rarely permitted to leave the base because of their behavior.

However, things change when Sentinel has the Autobots expelled. It is then that The Wreckers begin preparing to launch the Xantium. As the ship is leaving, it is destroyed by Starscream and The Wreckers are presumed dead but they had really hid inside of a booster rocket.

Later when the convoy is attacked by Shockwave and Optimus loses his trailer, The Wreckers create a diversion which allows Optimus to retrieve it. Soon after this, they also help Optimus out of a bit of a tangled situation and The Wreckers are among the surviving Autobots at the end of the film who are coming to terms with the fact that they can never leave Earth again.

Although it is implied in many parts of the movie that The Wreckers are too immature to be trusted or unsupervised, they prove to be quite useful to the Autobots. They are grouped as killers like Sideswipe, Bumblebee, Ironhide and Optimus Prime but they are far more relentless. This is proven in one scene when the pilot from a Decepticon’s ship is being torn apart by them. Leadfoot is chewing on the pilot’s head while the others are playing with random body parts.
