Decepticons are generally the “bad guys” in the Transformers universe. They are the Autobots’ bitter enemies. These villains may take on many different forms, and they have different stories and origins depending on the type of Transformers media you refer to.
In all media types, Megatron leads the Decepticons. They all have a purple insignia on their faces, and they usually have red-colored eyes, as compared to the blue eyes of the Autobots.
Many Decepticons turn into different types of aircraft, so they are well-known for power in the air. They also often transform into construction or military vehicles, and some objects that are smaller even than humans.
Here are some of the Decepticon troops: The Fallen, Megatron, Starscream, Soundwave, Brawl, Barricade, Devastator, Long Haul, Bonecrusher, Scrapper, Hook, Scavenger, Mixmaster, Scorponok, Frenzy, Blackout
The majority of Decepticons consider humans to be insects or pests. This is most vividly demonstrated in the Transformers movie of 2007, where Megatron flicks a human as one would an insect, and says “disgusting”. Another
example of this is the time that Decepticon Frenzy complains about how “stupid insects” had attempted to shoot him. If you have seen the animated Transformers series, you will also have seen the way Decepticons detest humans by Starscream’s comments referring to his uncaring attitude if he destroyed Earth.
In Marvel comics, Decepticons are shown to have come from Cybertron’s gladiator pits. Their leadership in early years changed a great deal, since they would often kill their leaders and have to replace them. When Megatron assumed the throne, he was a lowly gladiator, and the Decepticons became a real threat to Cybertron’s remaining population.
Even though Megatron was their main leader, some other Decepticons also had prominent roles. Ratbat, Bludgeon, Scorponok and Shockwave all had their turns at leading the Decepticons, and they overthrew Megatron in the process, or assumed control when they thought Megatron was dead.
The Decepticons appeared in the Transformers 2007 movie, where it was revealed that Megatron and Optimus Prime had ruled Cybertron as co-rulers since the AllSpark gave them life. In this way, they kept Cybertron alive as well. Megatron developed a desire for more power, and assembled other warriors into the Decepticons, a separatist army. Megatron struck soon, bringing Cybertron to civil war. In the prequel Transformers novel, Ghosts of Yesterday, it was revealed that the leadership of the Decepticons was seized by Starscream after Megatron disappeared.
The Decepticons, like Autobots, looked more organic when seen in their movie version. The Autobots are more closely likened to humans, while Decepticons seem more like insects and monsters in their appearance. In the Transformers movie Revenge of the Fallen, we learned that the head of the Decepticons was The Fallen, not Megatron, at that time.
In the second movie’s final battle, many Decepticons are killed, including Devastator, Mixmaster, Rampage, Ravage, Scrapper, Long Haul, Scorponok as well as The Fallen, who has the spark ripped from him and smashed by none other than Optimus Prime. Demolisher and Sideways are killed in this movie too, by Sideswipe and Optimus Prime.
By 2005, Cybertron had been conquered by the Decepticons, but Unicron’s attack shattered their forces, which allowed the Autobots to reclaim the planet and get rid of their foes. Chaar was a ruined world where the Decepticons fled, until Galvatron returned and organized them into a battle-worthy force, ready to battle to get Cybertron back.
