Dark of the Moon Review, the Plot
Dark of the Moon starts out by giving you a bit of history. A Cybertronian spacecraft known as the Arc crash-landed on the moon in 1961. President John F. Kennedy authorized the crew of Apollo 11 to go to the moon to investigate this after it was picked up by the NASA.
Fast-forwarding to present times in Dark of the Moon, the Autobots are continuing to work with the United States Military to help prevent conflicts around the world. Optimus Prime discovers a fuel cell that had belonged to the Ark, leading him to believe that the journey from Cybertron actually was a success all those years ago.
Shockwave attacks the Autobots but they escape and travel to the moon to find the Ark. It is there that they find Sentinel Prime who was the leader before Optimus. He is comatose but eventually Optimus figures out how to revive him using his Matrix of Leadership.
Back on Earth, Sam Witwicky is growing jealous of the close relationship his girlfriend Carly and her boss (Gould) have. He’s also frustrated because he can’t find a job nor can he work with the Autobots. He soon discovers that the Decepticons are murdering people and that they had already raided the Ark long ago and left Sentinel there as a trap for the Autobots. Ironhide is killed by Sentinel and he reveals that he had previously made a deal of Megatron.
Sentinel transports hundreds of Decepticons at the same time Carly’s boss captures her and reveals he works with the Decepticons. The Autobots leave Earth to try to avoid a dangerous war but Starscream destroys their ship and they are all presumed dead.
Gould reveals that the Decepticons intend on using the Earth’s resources to rebuild their own world while also enslaving humanity. Sam learns that Carly is in Chicago so he heads there to find her. It is a very close call in Dark of the Moon as the Decepticons nearly kill Sam but the Autobots who were thought to be dead intervene just in time.
The soldiers and Autobots work together to save Carly, killing Shockwave, Starscream, Barricade and Soundwave along the way. Sam fights Gould and ultimately electrocutes him while Ratchet and Bumblebee destroy the Control Panel.
While Optimus and Sentinel are fighting, Carly does a little reverse psychology on Megatron telling him that he will lose his position as the Decepticon leader to Sentinel so he intervenes and attacks him. Optimus quickly attacks Megatron and kills him while Sentinel begs for his life. Of course, Optimus does what is right in Dark of the Moon and destroys Sentinel for good. The movie ends with the Autobots accepting that Earth is now their permanent home because Cybertron imploded when the Control Panel was destroyed so they can never go back.
