Are the Transformers Games on DS too Complex?
While War for Cybertron received awesome reviews for PS3 and Xbox 360, fans are torn right down the middle on these Transformer games for DS. It is definitely a significant improvement over the original Transformers and Revenge of the Fallen but some gamers feel that Vicarious Visions may have took this game a bit too far and created something a little too complex for the average fan.
Unlike previous Transformer games on DS, there are no new missions to download and your only options are Autobots and Decepticons, one feature made simple in an otherwise chaotic adventure. War for Cybertron does however maintain its online four-player death match which is certainly appreciated.
What’s unique about this release as opposed to the previous Transformer games on DS is that there is actually unique storylines and missions depending on which side you play. It is recommended to play the Autobots version first because there is a very clever twist during the first mission when you play the Decepticons side that would be ruined and unappreciated if you played in opposite order.
In the Game
Of all the Transformer games on DS, War for Cybertron offers some solid design. You have to swap back and forth
between whichever two Transformers that you choose to heal teammates and utilize strengths which is a pretty unique concept but still, one that may be lost on the new gamer. Every character falls into small, heavy or flying groups, each with special abilities and weapons. Flying Transformers take you airborne, small ones can squeeze through tiny openings and the heavy Transformers are perfect for crushing walls. All characters are weak against certain attacks so it is your goal to switch back and forth and determine the strongest way to play with every situation.
Challenges
While DS owners are definitely appreciative of the improvement in War for Cybertron over previous Transformer games for DS, there are a few ares that are so challenging that they have warranted complaints. Some of the missions are long, really long! So, what’s the problem with that? There are no checkpoints to save yourself from death. Also, there are inconsistencies in the mission designs because sometimes you will die if you plunge from a platform while other time you won’t so you always have to keep your guard up and not take anything for granted.
What is Nintendo DS?
If you are considering buying Transformer games on DS rather than its opponents and you’re trying to decide on a console you should know that this is a unique hand-held game console. Since its release, it has remained a consistently high-selling game product. It features virtual surround sound and a microphone that is used for speech recognition. If you’re looking for a small, portable gaming console with exceptional graphics and superior quality, DS is the one to get.
